The first Call of Duty was released in 2003, and more than twenty others have been released since then. Whether you’re a fan of historic, modern, or futuristic firearms, some are bound to suit your style in at least a few games.

With so many games released over the last couple of decades, it would be nearly impossible to cover every weapon, so I’ve decided to review my favorites. All these guns can be found in real life if you look hard enough or have a large enough budget, except one, which you’ll have to stick around until the end to see.

So, if you don’t have access to these in real life, you can at least play with them in the game. By the way, these are in no specific order.

MP5

Running and gunning was my style of play, and with the MP5, you are light on your feet and can quickly clear buildings and rooms.

The fast rate of fire and ability to predict its recoil make up for its less-than-devastating stopping power since it’s chambered in 9mm. As long as you’re within a short to medium range of your target, the MP5 can neutralize them in a few shots.

A wide range of accessories is available to build your perfect setup, and depending on the game mode, you can carry up to 390 rounds!

RPD

The RPD can be found in the LMG (Light Machine Gun) weapon class, although there was nothing light about its performance.

With 100 rounds of 7.62 at your disposal, it’s an ideal weapon if you like to “camp” and hunker down in place. Many people back themselves into a corner to avoid being snuck up on, go prone, and wait for unsuspecting opponents to walk into their line of sight.

Surprisingly, the recoil is relatively low even when blasting away non-stop, making it ideal for taking down larger groups simultaneously.

Barrett M82

It should come as no surprise that the Barret M82, chambered in .50 BMG, has the highest penetration of any multiplayer weapon. And when you do locate and hit your adversary, the stopping power is unmatched.

Land one hit anywhere between the upper stomach and the head, and you’re in the clear.

I don’t run the M82 often in the game, but when I do, you better believe I’m punching through walls with it. Source: fandom

Of course, weight and capacity come into play as cons, so you’ll need to choose your utilization of it carefully, reserving it for maps where you can find ample coverage.

I had the opportunity to shoot one of these in real life a few years back, and it was a great experience! I could only shoot it indoors, but I can’t wait for the day I can take one outdoors and see how far I can push it.

The fact that these can be shot indoors and at such close distances still amazes me.

SCAR

I find the SCAR to be an extremely worthy primary weapon, depending on the map. While it does offer one of the lowest magazine capacities (20 rounds) in multiplayer, it offers impressive stopping power.

It also doesn’t weigh you down as much as you may think, allowing you to still move at 95% of the base movement speed in the game. Hip-fire accuracy is decent, and recoil is manageable, which helps when you’re facing off against multiple attackers.

Throw a holographic or red dot sight on, and you’re good to go!

Gold Desert Eagle

Desert Eagles are simply awesome, no matter how you spin them. They are devastatingly powerful and are a status symbol in the game. You had to bust your butt to reach the appropriate rank that unlocks the Desert Eagle.

Then, you can take it one step further and obtain a gold Desert Eagle. Yes, you read that right, a GOLD Desert Eagle. Enough said.

I haven’t had the privilege of shooting a gold desert eagle before, but I have been able to shoot a standard one and loved every second of it!

M16A4

Easily one of the more “vanilla” guns on the list, the M16A4 is available to players from the get-go. While it’s not one of the coolest or most powerful guns in the game, it’s one of the most well-rounded from an accuracy and damage perspective.

It features an optional 3-round burst mode and has more accessory options than you’ll know what to do with. I’m not the only person who liked it, either; some sources say it was the most popular gun in Call of Duty history.

Best of all, you could add a grenade launcher or “noob tube” as angry individuals would call it, that could help you take out rooms of individuals from a distance!

Ray Gun

Alright, I understand this isn’t a real gun (although I wish it was), but it’s one of my favorites for slaying zombies.

The ray gun is a one-shot kill weapon in many scenarios and is highly fought over by many players. With a standard 20-round capacity, you can take plenty of zombies out before having to reload.

Parting Shots

Now look, I completely understand you may not agree with some of these choices, and that’s okay! These are my personal favorites for one reason or another, but there are plenty of other awesome guns to equip your loadout with.

Since a video game isn’t a matter of life and death, don’t take this list too seriously. Just start a match, pick a gun, and have fun!
