Springfield Armory released the original Echelon in the summer of 2023, gaining a quick following due to its modularity and impressive features. Boasting a 17+1 standard capacity with a 20+1 extended capacity, it makes for a great duty, competition, or home defense gun.
However, some find it slightly larger than what’s ideal to carry (more power to you if you do!), so we knew it was only a matter of time until a compact version was released.
With the recent release of the Echelon 4.0C (compact) and the Echelon Alpha 4.0C, there are now more magazine options to keep track of, so we figured it was the perfect time to provide a helpful buyer’s guide.
Whether you’re looking for magazines to carry, protect your home with, or hit the range with, we have you covered.
Note: To clear up any confusion before going any further, the original Echelon with a 4.5-inch barrel is now referred to as the 4.5F, while the compact Echelon with the 4-inch barrel is referred to as the 4.0C.
Concealed Carry
Magazine capacities have come a long way over the last several years, and you no longer should expect or settle for single-digit round counts with your carry gun. The Echelon 4.5F and 4.0C offer a 17 and 15-round flush-fit magazine, respectively, giving you plenty of firepower when on the go.
Both magazines are highly durable and made of high-quality stainless steel with a corrosion-resistant black finish. The impact-resistant polymer baseplate provides additional texturing for maximum control and adds to the overall durability.
You’ll never lose track of your remaining rounds thanks to the numbered rear-facing witness holes, and the anti-tilt polymer follower will keep each of them perfectly aligned and feeding flawlessly.
With these being extensively tested for your Echelon and providing impressive capacity, they are the perfect magazines to accompany you while carrying.

Home Protection
Home protection is all about maximizing your capacity and, thus, your defensive capabilities. Since you don’t have to worry about printing and comfort, there should be no reason not to go with these factory extended magazines!
Like the flush-fit magazines above, these were designed, tested, and proven reliable for your Echelon. The stainless steel construction and black finish keep them looking as good as they are durable.
The anti-tilt polymer follower keeps each round ready to go, and the rear-facing witness holes help you track how many you have left.
More ammo, superior reliability, and maximum durability. What else could you ask for in a magazine?

Range Use
When it comes to range time, the more rounds, the merrier! It’s always good to reduce your time reloading to maximize your time shooting.
Whether you want a few more or A LOT more rounds for the range, we have you covered with bulk packs and drum mags!
Drum Fun:
It doesn’t get much more fun than shooting with a drum magazine. Who doesn’t want to have 50 rounds of 9mm loaded and ready to go? I know I sure do!
ProMag is no stranger to the drum mag market and is considered an OG in the arena.
Constructed from a proprietary Dupont Zytel-based polymer and featuring a heat-treated steel spring, durability will never be a concern. And when you add in the injection-molded polymer follower, each of the 50 rounds will feed smoothly and reliably.
The icing on the cake? They are made right here in the beautiful United States!
Mag Extension:
Maybe you don’t need to double or triple your round count, but you simply want a few more. If that’s the case, the Shield Arms +5 magazine extension is precisely what you need.
The beautiful anodized billet aluminum extension adds five rounds to your factory 17-round magazine with ease and looks good doing it. It’s important to note that this extension is NOT compatible with the 10, 15, or 20-round factory magazines or any aftermarket magazines.
Compliant
We’ll keep this section short, just like the capacity of these compliant magazines. If you’re stuck in a state that limits your magazine capacity, these are for you.

Final Thoughts
There you have it. All the magazines you can ever want for your Springfield Echelon 4.5F and 4.0C.
From flush factory magazines to 50-round drums, you’ll be covered for everything from concealed carry to extended-range trips.
It’s always good to have a few spare magazines in case your primaries need to be replaced, so at a minimum, you should pick up a couple extra. Throw another few on top if you’re going to be hitting the range often (which you should be).
As always, stay safe, train hard, and have fun.
