A couple of years ago, I tried out my first Holosun optic on a Smith & Wesson M&P9 M2.0, and I quickly realized what all the hype was about.

Arguably leading the industry from an innovation and technology standpoint, Holosun continues to produce new optics each year that catch my attention.

Holosun’s newer SCS (Solar Charging Sight) line has introduced several models to the market for specific handgun platforms such as Glock, Smith & Wesson, and Sig Sauer, but the newest offering, the SCS-CARRY, is not model-specific.

Hellcat Pro with SCS-CARRY

The Hellcat Pro was my chosen test pistol for the SCS-CARRY.

The SCS-CARRY is a great fit for a wide array of popular pistols. Think along the lines of the Glock 43X and Sig P365, or as you can see in this article, the Springfield Hellcat Pro.

Its compact and enclosed design offers much more than meets the eye, so let’s examine the brand-new Holosun SCS-CARRY a bit closer.

A huge thank you goes out to Holosun for sending out this SCS-CARRY for review!

Futuristic Features

As I mentioned above, SCS stands for Solar Charging Sight, which is just what it sounds like. The sight features a solar charging system that keeps the battery operating potentially indefinitely when paired with the internal rechargeable battery.

Solar cells

Solar cells give a unique spin to the optic’s aesthetic.

From a prepper perspective, never worrying about a new battery for my optic is very appealing. Furthermore, from a simple convenience standpoint, I appreciate it. It’s the star feature, and rightfully so.

Then, there is the multiple reticle system, which consists of a 2 MOA dot and 32 MOA circle. This combination is highly versatile as it helps you quickly acquire your target and then easily hone in on your exact shot placement.

If you feel like your view is too cluttered running both reticles, you can toggle to the 2 MOA dot or 32 MOA circle individually.

combination of both reticles

The combination of both reticles is hard to beat!

So, you have battery life covered, a few reticle options, and then you can choose between automatically adjusting the illumination settings based on the ambient light or manually adjusted.

There is a single button located on the left side of the optic that adjusts it all, which takes some getting used to, admittedly.

Hellcat Pro

It looks right at home on top of the Hellcat Pro.

Despite all of this fancy technology, it’s still a robust and durable optic. It’s constructed from 7075 T6 aluminum, and its enclosed design prevents unwanted debris from entering. It is IPX8-rated and can operate under extreme temperatures, so you should be able to count on this optic to perform through any realistic scenario.

If you enjoy reading up on the finer details of optics, here are the specifications. As you’ll see, the SCS-CARRY is a very well-rounded optic.

Range Time Results

I haven’t been hitting the range as frequently as I would like, but I have managed to throw just shy of 500 rounds down range with the help of the SCS-CARRY mounted on my Hellcat Pro.

Having a couple of other SCS models, I’m very familiar with the reticle and the window size, but something about the additional housing size makes it seem like a smaller window at first.

It took me a few mags to get used to it, but it was smooth sailing once I did. It didn’t matter if I was using the dot, circle, or combination; any of the gongs or silhouettes I was shooting at within about 40 yards didn’t stand a chance.

SCS-CARRY

I didn’t waste any time putting rounds down range once I received the SCS-CARRY

The auto-brightness adjusted well, but it was a tad too bright compared to what I would normally set it at. However, it did not hinder performance.

Overall, the SCS-CARRY has been performing well, allowing me to lock on to my targets quickly. It has stayed perfectly zeroed during my time with it so far.

SCS-CARRY and SCS-MP2

The SCS-CARRY has the same window size as the SCS-MP2 but a much larger housing due to it being enclosed.

Pros & Cons

As always, keep in mind that just because something is a pro or con for me doesn’t necessarily mean it will be for you.

SCS-CARRY Pros:

  • Solar charging
  • Multiple reticle options
  • Durable
  • High-quality glass
  • Enclosed
  • Blacked-out aesthetic

SCS-CARRY Cons:

  • A tad pricey (but you get what you pay for, and it’s still cheaper than an RMR Type 2!)
  • Logos on all sides

Final Thoughts

When it comes to pistol optics, the SCS-CARRY checks all the boxes for me, plus more. Being enclosed, having solar technology, and offering multiple reticles are enough to make these fly off the shelves, but adding the rest of the features makes the SCS-CARRY a no-brainer.

They are still somewhat challenging to find since they are so new, but if you do and pull the trigger, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

As always, stay safe, train hard, and have fun.
