KelTec SUB2000 Magazine Buying Guide: Magazines For Every Magwell

The KelTec SUB2000 quickly gained popularity for its unique folding ability, making it a highly compact pistol-caliber carbine that can easily be stowed in a backpack or car. Now that the third generation of the carbine is on the market, we’ve seen them fly off the shelves.

With optional mag wells that can accept many of your favorite pistol magazines, such as those for Glock, Beretta, Sig Sauer, and Smith & Wesson, it can take time to find the right magazine. That’s why we’ve created this all-encompassing buying guide.

Standard Use/Home Defense

When you must rely on your magazines, especially in a potential defensive scenario, you will want to look at OEM magazines. While they may be more expensive, you’ll get the reliability to justify the price.

Glock Magwells

There is a reason why the term “Glock reliability” exists. Glock doesn’t just manufacture reliable firearms, as the magazines follow suit. 

Constructed from a high-quality polymer and featuring full-length steel inserts, these magazines are as tough as they come. Inside the magazines are anti-tilt polymer followers that help deliver flawless feeding of your chosen ammo. 

Additionally, you’ll find rear-facing numbered witness holes that allow you to quickly and easily keep track of your remaining rounds. What else could you possibly want? If you answered more rounds…just wait until later in the article!

Beretta 92 Magwell 

With a welded steel body that features a corrosion-resistant finish, these genuine 18-round Beretta magazines can handle any task at hand. 

To help keep the weight low but reliability high, you’ll find a polymer base plate and anti-tilt polymer follower. A high-quality steel spring pairs wonderfully with the anti-tilt follower to keep each round ready while the feed lips keep them perfectly aligned.

Once you throw in the rear-facing witness holes, this magazine should check most, if not all, of your boxes.

Sig P320 Magwell

While these are technically considered “extended” magazines, these genuine 21-rounders from Sig will fit perfectly in your SUB2000 without looking like you’re trying to head to the range and never have to reload. 

The Nitride-coated carbon steel body features precision-cut side-facing witness holes and provides ample durability for everyday or extended use. Inside is a black anti-tilt polymer follower that you can rely on regardless of the type of ammo you’re running.

Don’t worry; we have some actual extended magazines for the P320 magwell coming later…but these should be one of your top picks for home defense and standard use.

M&P9 Magwell

This factory 23-round magazine was released along with the Smith & Wesson FPC not too long ago but also fits your M&P9 pistols and SUB2000 magwell. It’s hard to turn your nose up at a 23+1 capacity, especially when you know the magazine is reliable on top of it all. 

Just like the standard capacity M&P9 magazines, you’ll find a polymer grip sleeve for a seamless fit and side-facing numbered witness holes. This is the magazine you need for maximum capacity without becoming unwieldy if you have an M&P9 magwell for your SUB2000.

Range Use

For range purposes, why not grab that extended magazine or save a few bucks by purchasing aftermarket magazines? These magazines perform well and will save you money, time reloading, or both!

Glock Magwells

Since Glock also makes extended magazines for the 17/19 and 22/23 pistols, we had to stick with these genuine options even for the range. There are plenty of quality aftermarket magazines, too, but they still can’t beat the good old factory ones. 

These share all the same features as the one above but simply give you that extra firepower. The Glock 22/23 magazines are only available in black, but you can go ahead and add some style to your range kit with FDE and OD green options for the 17/19!

Beretta 92 Magwell

KCI is known for its quality magazines, and this 30-round extended magazine for the Beretta 92 is no different. 

A steel body and anti-tilt polymer follower provide a perfect combination of durability and reliability. You’ll find front-facing witness holes and even a ribbed grip extension that provides superior handling, especially when reloading in a hurry.

Not to mention, these are a great price. You might as well buy a few while you can.

Sig P320 Magwell

Crossing over the 30-round mark, we have this 32-round extended magazine from Promag. 

It features all the high-quality components you’ve come to expect from Promag, such as the heat-treated steel tube, chrome silicon wire spring, and anti-tilt polymer follower. 

They may be simple from an aesthetic perspective, but they get the job done at a great price!

M&P9 Magwell

Translucent magazines are “clearly” great for the range…do you see what I did there?! Ok, anyways…

ETS Group is known for its translucent magazines, and these newer ones for the M&P9 are perfect for range time with your SUB2000. The translucent polymer is still highly durable but allows you to keep track of your remaining rounds easily. 

The polymer baseplate is removable for easy maintenance, giving this magazine all the essentials for frequent range trips.

Drum Mags

When you want to maximize your fun, look no further than a drum!

Glock 17/19 Magwell

You know those trusty PMAGs that you use for your AR-15? Well, Magpul also extends that line to magazines for Glock pistols, so let us introduce you to the Magpul PMAG D-50 GL9. 

It has many of the same features as your traditional PMAG, from its durable polymer construction, witness window, and even a paint pen dot matrix. 

The ratcheting lever makes loading simple and easy, and the bolt-hold open feature will instantly alert you when it’s time to reload. Designed to be left loaded, you can always stay ready for the zombie apocalypse!

If you’ve ever searched for drum magazines, there is a very high probability that ProMag’s offerings popped up. ProMag has essentially perfected the drum mag, from the materials used to the features it incorporates. 

Having 50 rounds of any ammo can add serious weight to your gun, so ProMag constructs its drum mags out of polymer to help reduce the weight. However, a steel liner is used in the tower to ensure durability. 

A nice touch to finish each one off is a hand-crank loading mechanism. Oh yeah, and the drum mags are made right here in the United States!

Last Minute Thoughts

As you can see, regardless of the SUB2000 configuration that you’re running, we have you covered with magazines! If you’re going to use your SUB2000 for strictly range fun, grab any magazine you please; the higher the capacity and the more money you can save, the better. 

However, we recommend going with factory magazines if you’re running your SUB2000 for home defense or as a backpack gun. A couple of extra dollars per magazine is well worth the peace of mind.
