The firearms community is an ever-evolving one with manufacturers like Ruger, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson, & Kel-Tec, just to name a few, competing for market share and your hard-earned dollars. Ruger consistently introduces models, both newly designed and iterations on existing models, and PC and LC Carbines have become two of Ruger’s most popular.

Background
Ruger reintroduced the PC Carbine in 2018 to much fanfare and critical praise. The PC Carbine is chambered in 9mm and offers modularity, ruggedness, and compatibility with reliable Glock and Ruger magazines. It helped make it a go-to choice for home defense, recreational shooting, and competition shooting.

Building off the successful LC Carbine, in 2022, Ruger released the LC Carbine. Chambered in 5.7x28mm, it offers a lightweight design and has magazine compatibility with the Ruger-5.7 pistol. It’s an easy-to-enjoy firearm with low recoil and a highly effective, high-velocity cartridge.
It also saw quick success, so it should be no surprise that new models followed.
Evolution of the LC Carbine
LC Carbine in .45 ACP
Ruger introduced two new models of the LC Carbine in 2024. For many, .45 ACP is the penultimate pistol caliber, and its effectiveness is hard to argue against. Weighing 7.1 pounds, the .45 ACP version of the LC Carbine can easily absorb the .45’s recoil while maintaining a lightweight design. It features a 16.25-inch threaded barrel and an adjustable folding stock, and the Picatinny rail and MLOK slots allow users to mount their preferred optics and accessories, making the LC Carbine customizable.
One of, if not the biggest, selling points for the LC Carbine is that it takes Glock magazines. Too many firearms have failed to gain market share due to their proprietary magazines, which are often finicky and expensive. Ruger bypassed this issue from the start.
The LC Carbine is already a hit in the firearms community, with users praising the rifle’s performance and reliability.
LC Carbine in 10mm Auto
Ruger also introduced a 10mm version of the LC Carbine in the second half of 2024. The 10 mm cartridge is one of the hottest pistol cartridges on the market, and its growing popularity has led to an increasing number of firearms chambered in it.

The 10mm LC Carbine is very similar to the .45 ACP version. While it tips the scales at a slightly heavier 7.4 pounds, it has the same 16.25-inch barrel length, adjustable folding stock, Picatinny rail, and MLOK slots.
Similar to the .45 ACP version, the 10mm LC Carbine is compatible with Glock-pattern magazines. The LC Carbine comes with a 30-round magazine from the factory, but the popular Glock compatibility ensures plenty of options.
Overall, the 10mm LC Carbine earns high marks for modularity and reliability.
Magazines
It really can’t be stated enough how much of a win it was for the LC Carbine to have Glock magazine compatibility. Even if Glock firearms are not your go-to pistols, there is a decent chance you will own some. The reliability of Glock magazines is legendary, and being able to trust your magazines is as crucial as trusting the gun itself.
Practical Uses
The LC Carbine and PC Carbine rifles can easily fill various roles, and the addition of the .45 ACP and 10mm versions has expanded their capabilities.
- Home Defense: The carbines’ compact size and effective chamberings offer adequate stopping power and maneuverability.
- Recreational Shooting: The minimal recoil and ergonomic design of Ruger’s carbines make for an enjoyable shooting experience, even for those who are recoil-sensitive. Whether you are doing serious target practice or just plinking, the PC and LC carbines, in all calibers, are fun to shoot.
- Hunting: The 10mm LC Carbine, with its 16.25-inch barrel, can take medium-sized game up to 100 yards. Beyond that, it is approaching unethical, but with the right ammo, you will be over 1,000 ft/lbs at 100 yards, which is acceptable for hunting deer.
Firearms Community
The broader firearms community already favored the PC Carbine and LC Carbine in 5.7mm. Early feedback on the LC Carbine in .45 ACP and 10mm is also positive. The factors that made the PC Carbine and LC Carbine winners remain, and Ruger added Glock magazine compatibility, making them hard to complain about.

Last Words
Ruger’s introduction of the LC Carbine models in .45 ACP and 10mm Auto shows that it listened to the evolving wants of the firearm community and developed firearms to meet them. The ambidextrous controls and Glock Magazine compatibility are top-notch design choices that reflect a coherent design philosophy. The LC and PC Carbines are winners in my book, and anyone considering one should feel confident they are getting a quality firearm.
