Sig Sauer has been continuously expanding its P365 line of pistols since it debuted in 2018.
Thanks to its compact size and great magazine capacity, the P365 became a fan favorite among concealed carriers all over the country. Sig capitalized by enlarging the P365 and releasing the P365XL, which gave bigger shooters a good handgun for every season.
There have been many iterations since then. Some were good, and some were better off as ideas, but the P365 line remains one of the most popular.
Recently, Sig released the P365 Fuse, the largest pistol in the P365 class with the longest sight radius. Sig touts it as the best-shooting P365 in the lineup.
A longer sight radius gives you more accuracy, which could make the Fuse a good competition gun or a concealed carry gun for those who have the size to conceal the larger pistol.
On the other hand, we have the P365X-Macro, a true fan favorite among the other P365s due to its more extended grip and similar slide and barrel length to the P365, which we all know is loved for concealed carry.
And that’s the purpose of the X-Macro—concealed carry.
Today, we’re comparing the two. Which is better for what, why, and which one should you get, depending on what you’re looking for.
The Challenger: Sig P365 Fuse
As the new guy here, the P365 Fuse has needed more time to prove itself.
At first glance, the P365 Fuse is a reasonably large pistol for the P365 category. Its overall length is 7.2 inches, and it’s similar in size to the P320 Compact or the M18.
As someone who has carried an M18 for a while, I can say it’s not uncomfortable or hard to conceal. The Fuse is also slimmer, at 1.1 inches, which makes it even more comfortable and concealable.
It boasts a very impressive capacity, as it comes with 17 and 21-round magazines. Those numbers are nothing to turn your nose up at.
Are you starting to see a pattern here? The overall size, barrel length, and similar magazines suggest that the P365 and P320 were “fused” together.
We just figured it out.
Considering it’s the same relative size as the P320C, I’m not sure what Sig was going for here. It almost feels like a niche gun.
Maybe a competition gun for smaller shooters? I’m sure it can function in a few different roles, but they aren’t clear.
The Champ: P365X-Macro
Do you know what doesn’t feel like a niche gun? The X-Macro.
It’s one of the best variants of the P365, if not the best. The X-Macro is a crossover between the P365XL (grip module) and the standard P365 (slide and barrel), making it one of the best concealed carry guns ever.
There’s a reason why so many people carry one.
With enough grip length to accommodate the hands of any shooter and the slide length to ensure you aren’t jabbed by your firearm all day, the X-Macro has a clear place. That place is a home in front of your appendix.
With a capacity of 17+1 rounds, you’re on par with the magazine capacity of the Fuse (and every other P320-sized pistol on the market) until you get to the extended magazines.
The only drawback of the X-Macro is its short sight radius, which makes it slightly harder to be as accurate.
You know what that means? Train more.
There are very few pistols on the market with a more apparent purpose. In the hand and the waistband, the X-Macro is a legend.
Clear Winner: Sig P365X-Macro
Why? Because you know where it belongs.
The P365 Fuse is rather odd because you don’t really know where it belongs. Is it meant for carry? Well, not every shooter can comfortably fit that much pistol in their waistband, which is what the P365 line is intended for.
The X-Macro, on the other hand, has a short footprint that can be easily concealed by more shooters, a grip size that accommodates their hands, and solid magazine capacity to boot.
It’s hard for the Fuse to compete with the X-Macro. On the one hand, you have a pistol that can perform but doesn’t have a clear purpose, and on the other hand, you have a pistol that is a best seller and loved by many for its use in concealed carry.
That’s why the X-Macro wins here.
Conclusion
The Fuse has promise. As a thinner pistol, many larger shooters can easily conceal it and still have a comfortable pistol with a great magazine capacity. But the Fuse needs to prove itself more before you put it against a legend like the X-Macro.
It’s only been a month since it came out, and it’s too soon to tell if the Fuse can amount to the status of the X-Macro, but we’ll see as time goes on.
Which one do you prefer? That’s what matters. Try to get your hands on both at your local FFL and see which fits better and which is easier for you to be effective with. You could end up finding your new favorite pistol.
Be good and take care.
