I don’t think even John Moses Browning could have imagined the level of popularity his design would reach, but here we are. There have been many iterations, and today, we are reviewing which 1911s are worth your dollars in 2025.
1911s can be expensive. And the good ones usually are.
Why? Aside from good ol’ Americana, they are entirely made of steel, which increases the cost of manufacturing, machining those parts, and the quality control behind making a fine firearm. It’s easy to see why prices can easily reach $1,000 plus.

And if you can spare it, it’s worth it. 1911s provide some of the finest shooting experiences you can get from a pistol and look absolutely amazing on top of it.
So if you’re in the market for a 1911, you’re in the right spot. Or, if you already have one and are looking for the best selection of 1911 magazines, you know we have you covered there too!
Best Overall – Dan Wesson Commander Classic
When it comes to 1911s, no other names ring the bell like Dan Wesson. One of the finest purveyors of 1911s on the market, the Commander Classic gives you everything you want in a 1911.
Quality looks, feel, and non-replicable performance. A forged stainless steel frame and slide, match grade barrel, and a trigger that should be studied.

Unlike many others, the free-standing tritium sights are removable, making them easy to swap out when the 12-year mark comes around.
The skeletonized hammer and trigger complete the look of the pistol that is at home wherever you put it. While the eight-round magazine is nothing to write home about, it’s what you get with a 1911, and this 1911 is ready for whatever task.
Best Top-Dollar – Any Heirloom Precision 1911
If you want the best 1911, you’ll have to spend a lot of money and wait a long time for it.
Each pistol is handcrafted with little to no machinery—the way it was done when a good 1911 cost $35, and takes 160 hours, to be exact, for the guys at Heirloom to handcraft your pistol.
Each one is 1:1, meaning there is nothing like it. Like a suit made by a tailor, each aspect is thoroughly examined, leaving no stone unturned.

After all those man hours, you’re presented with a pistol few are worthy of. Seriously, some cannot appreciate the amount of craftsmanship that comes with these pistols.
It’s the tip of the spear when it comes to top-tier 1911s. And you cannot put a price on it when it’s done.
I can’t dive into the exact specifications of each one since they are all custom made, but you can rest easy knowing only the highest-quality components and materials are used.
Best Budget – Rock Island Armory 1911
On the other end of the finance spectrum, we have 1911s that won’t turn heads or offer the best features, but will get the job done, and many people love them. Rock Island Armory 1911s are legends for many reasons.
For one, they run. Like I said, it won’t break any barriers, but it’s the cheapest way to get your hands on a 1911 that won’t jam on you every few rounds, and they are reasonably attractive for the price.

Budget, but runs like a champ. Source
The models feature night sights, skeletonized triggers and hammers, and are made from 4000 ordnance series steel. They’re tough, and they are pretty damn fine for a 1911 under $1,000.
If you don’t want to spend a ton of money but still want a decent 1911, let Rock Island Armory be your stop. They also come in many sizes, so you’ll have options if you’re looking for a carry gun.
Best Hard-Use 1911 – Colt CCU Rail
If any company knows how to build a 1911 for serious use, it’ll be the company that invented, produced, and supplied it to military personnel in the wet Pacific theatre.
This iteration of the 1911 is a combat-focused option developed by special forces combat trainers to provide the best shooting experience to those relying on firearms here and overseas.
The matte black stainless steel coated frame ensures a long life from your 1911 before any corrosion finds a way in. This model in particular has a rail for those who want to run a light, which you should.

And if that wasn’t enough, the match grade barrel and Novak sights make tight shot groupings easy out of the box, so you can say it’s ready to go from the factory.
Best 1911 For EDC – Springfield Armory Emissary AOS 4.25”
Springfield Armory is another company that no 1911 article is complete without. Every 1911 owner I’ve talked to swears by the Emissary when it comes to carrying. Say what you want about Springfield, but it makes a great EDC 1911.

We recommend this model, mainly because of the optic cut from the factory. Red dots are the future of aiming, and if your battery dies, the suppressor height sights are there to back you up.
The heavy bull barrel helps keep the muzzle velocity down, and it has a rail for a light (which everyone should run on a carry gun). The accuracy of the aforementioned bull barrel makes shot groupings tighter than box braids, and the black cerakote looks excellent.
Unless you’re buying a custom 1911, you won’t find any other like it for carrying.
Conclusion
1911s will always be one of the finest pistols for collecting, fighting, and everything in between. They are attractive, accurate, and complement every shooter’s ability. It’s the perfect pistol, which is why we’ve kept it around for so long.
But if you are looking for the best, you will be spending a lot of money and waiting a long time. Some have five-year waitlists and can set you back at least $8,000 or more.
These things get expensive, but are worth it if you enjoy experiences and want a 1911 from a true master of the platform.
Be good and take care.
