When you run into the term cheap, and it’s associated with a firearm, nine times out of ten, you should turn the other way.

Cheap is different than budget, keep in mind. I love testing budget firearms. I’ve found some hidden gems in the budget category that, while I wouldn’t trade any of my guns for, I’d still have decent confidence in their abilities.

But today, we will look at some of the cheapest firearms on the market. If you’re looking for an extra range toy or conversation starter for your next get-together, each one of these can be found under $200 BRAND NEW.

Whether you prefer pistols, shotguns, or rifles, we have something for you to check out!

Hi-Point YC9

Many memes floating around social media have been made using the various Hi-Point firearms, especially the YEET Cannon.

On paper, it may have many features you’ve come to expect from a modern-day semi-auto pistol, such as a threaded barrel, a red dot-ready slide, and an accessory rail. However, from looking at the pistol, you’ll see it’s much different than others.

The slide is absolutely massive, and that’s because it’s blowback-operated. The larger and heavier slide mitigates muzzle rise and recoil quite a bit, and I’ve found it an easy to control flat-shooting pistol.

Its trigger is nothing to write home about, and the sights can use some serious improvement, but it somehow finds a way to be relatively accurate and surprisingly reliable. For a fun gun that is sure to start a conversation with whoever is in the lane next to you, consider checking out the YEET Cannon.

Savage Arms Stevens 320

There are close to a dozen different models of the Savage Arms Stevens 320, and most of them can be found under $200 if you look hard enough. The stocks, sights, and grips will vary, but one thing will remain the same: they are reliable workhorses.

Offering several rounds of hard-hitting 12 gauge makes it perfect for home defense or shooting some pumpkins on the range after Halloween. My favorite model features an 18.5-inch barrel, pistol grip, and Picatinny rail up top to mount your favorite optic. And yes, even that model can be found under $200.

They aren’t picky with ammo and have a surprisingly smooth pump action, making them a blast at the range (pun intended).

Heritage Rough Rider

If you’re a fan of old Westerns or wanted to be a cowboy as a kid, the Heritage Rough Rider is for you.

Whether you want a more classic style 4.75-inch barrel or an extra long 16-inch barrel, there is a model you can fall in love with. In fact, there are dozens of models so that you can find one for almost any occasion.

You can find a Rough Rider with wood grips, pearl grips, laminate grips, you name it. Many models even come with two cylinders: one for .22 LR and one for .22 WMR.

For only a couple hundred dollars, you can pick up a Rough Rider and feel like you’re in the Wild West.

Savage Mark II

I got a Savage Mark II a few years ago with minimal expectations. I already had plenty of .22 LR options at home, but the price and camo Cerakote job it had on it at the time caught my eye.

When I say the performance blew me away, I mean it. Right out of the box, it held its own with my modified Ruger 10/22. It has been reliable and highly accurate, even with the cheapest of scopes.

While there are many different models, most have an adjustable AccuTrigger and an exceptionally smooth action. You won’t have much luck finding any wooden stock models under $200, but if you don’t mind a synthetic stock, you need to check one out ASAP.

Kel-Tec P17

It’s hard to believe you can find a suppressor and optic-ready pistol for under $200. Then, to get three 16-round magazines with it makes it almost impossible to pass up a P17 from Kel-Tec.

The controls are easy to manipulate, it’s ergonomic for its size, and it even has an accessory rail to host your favorite lights. Thanks to the low price tag, you’ll have plenty of spare money for all those accessories!

It’s available in several different finishes, so when paired with the plethora of accessory options, you can really make the pistol your own. Even if for nothing more than a fun range toy on the weekends, don’t hesitate to grab a P17 and a box of ammo if you find one for the right deal!

Final Thoughts

There is no denying that getting into firearms can be a costly hobby and lifestyle, but not every aspect of it has to be. Sure, if you’re going to use a firearm for any defensive purpose(s), it’s not the place to go cheap. However, you can pick up a few budget firearms for range fun or training new shooters to save your hard-earned money for the ones that matter most!

After shooting all of these cheap guns and plenty of others, I would recommend you don’t turn your nose up at them too quickly…you may just find a diamond in the rough!

As always, stay safe, train hard, and have fun!
