Many shooters have fallen in love with the CZ P-07 and P-09 pistols over the last decade or so. Each brought an ergonomic, lightweight, and high-capacity pistol with many great selling features to the full-size and compact markets.
However, no optics-ready versions have been released, and users have complained about the controls and lack of texturing on the grip and frame. Thankfully, CZ has not only listened to consumers but provided an actual solution in the form of the CZ P-09 Nocturne!\

A similar light and optic combo that I’d personally go for. Source
What’s New?
As I mentioned, the P-07 and P-09 have much to offer – including crisp triggers, excellent shootability, and clean aesthetics. But it’s not greedy to expect a little more in 2024.

Either pistol will still serve you well. Source
The P-09 Nocturne is available in both a full-size and compact model, but they share the same great features. You’ll notice they have an optics-ready slide (compatible with Shield RMS and Holosun K footprints), additional and enhanced texturing, and more aggressive slide serrations.

Additionally, the controls saw a nice improvement. The mag release, slide stop, and safety are now more ergonomic, and when combined with the new texturing and slide serrations, the entire pistol is much easier to manipulate.
Lastly, both models include a nice set of luminescent sights that help you acquire your target better in lower-light scenarios.
These improvements are now standard for many pistols on the market, so I’m glad CZ caught up.
Other Notable Features
Certain features essentially carried over from the P-07 and P-09.
The Omega SA/DA trigger was already highly regarded, and when paired with the cold hammer forged barrel, accuracy did not need tweaking. Both followed the pistols, and I can see why. There was no need to reinvent the wheel there.

Although it is not a flat trigger, it’s very repeatable. Source
If you’re a fan of weapon-mounted lights, the accessory rail can accommodate plenty of the popular options, and with three sizes of interchangeable backstraps, you can really customize the Nocturne to fit your style and hand.

Seeing that we sell magazines, we have to touch on the capacity! The P-09 F Nocturne comes standard with 19-round magazines, and the P-09 C with 15-round magazines. If you happen to reside in a restricted state, don’t worry; we have 10-round magazines, too.
Each magazine is constructed from durable steel and features an anti-tilt polymer follower and rear-facing numbered witness holes. They aren’t overly pricey, but they aren’t cheap either, so make sure you know exactly what capacity you want/need!
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Optics-ready slide with luminescent sights
- Clean and crisp trigger
- Improved texturing and ergonomics
- Accurate cold hammer forged barrel
- Easy-to-use design
- Solid capacity
Cons:
- Limited model-specific aftermarket support
- Lanyard hole takes away from aesthetics (just my two cents)
Final Thoughts
It’s too early to speak to the pistol’s performance, as we haven’t had the pleasure of shooting one yet, and the reviews are still trickling in. However, with the success of the P-07 and P-09 and the Nocturne simply building upon and improving upon them, I would expect these to be a hit.

We need some range time as soon as possible. Source
Given the price point, features, and CZ’s lifetime barrel warranty, the P-09 Nocturnes are positioned to sell like hotcakes. Once we have one cross our desks, we’ll write a complete, hands-on review. Until then, we’ll just keep admiring the pictures and waiting for CZ to send us one…hint hint.
As always, stay safe, train hard, and have fun.
