I’ve shot plenty of pistols in my lifetime – from the straight-forward and simple Glock to your $10,000 competition 2011. Out of all of them, the PDP manages to shine.
Maybe it’s the competition-like feel out of a sub-$1,000 pistol (in the Pro series) or the superior ergonomics, but whatever the case, the PDP is one of my personal favorites.
Despite all the greatness the PDP provides, its magazines can be pricey, so you’ll want to ensure you’re purchasing the right one(s)!

Aesthetics and high capacity. Source
This list includes the best magazines for your PDP, whether you reserve yours for defensive uses or the range. The factory magazines have hundreds of thousands of rounds of research behind them, so we can wholeheartedly recommend them.
Concealed Carry
This section will focus heavily on the PDP Compact since it shines for concealed carry. But don’t worry, we won’t forget the full-size options later in the article.
Note: each one of these magazines has rear-facing witness holes to allow you to keep track of your remaining rounds. Now, we don’t have to repeat that several times over!
Standard Capacity (Compact Model) – Walther PDP Compact 15-Round Magazine
The PDP Compact comes standard with two 15-round magazines, but you should always have a few extra! Whether you want ready-to-go direct replacements or a few spares for the range, these factory magazines are your best bet.
This 15-round magazine sits flush with the end of the grip, mitigating snagging risks and keeping the whole package lightweight and maneuverable.
The magazine is constructed from high-quality steel and features an impact-resistant polymer baseplate. A bright orange follower will let you know when it’s time to eject the magazine and load another. Under that bright orange follower, a stainless steel magazine spring keeps it feeding your pistol reliably.
Walther makes its mags easy to disassemble and upgrade, so if you ever get the itch to change out to add a magazine extension, you’ll have no problem at all.
You’re Going To A Bad Neighborhood – Walther PPQ/PDP 17 Round Magazine
Maybe you feel like you need a couple of extra rounds “just in case,” so you’re looking into magazines that extend past the grip. While it may pose a slight snagging risk, this PPQ/PDP 17-round magazine acts more as an extension of your pistol and not some lame aftermarket knockoff.
The fitment is beautiful, with minimal points for snagging. If you have oversized hands, like mine, this allows you to have more grip area for your big mitts. Like the 15-round magazine, this one features an anti-tilt bright orange follower and a stainless steel magazine spring.
These magazines will be familiar if you own a PPQ M2 SF Pro. Like all of the higher-end stuff from Walther, extra attention is paid to ensure your magazines run smoothly for many rounds to come.
This 17-round magazine is compatible with a few other pistols from Walther, including the Walther Q5 Match SF and Walther Q5 Match SF Pro. If you own any of those or plan on owning one, you’ll have spares for them all.
Who doesn’t love versatility?
You’re Going To A Really Bad Neighborhood – Walther PDP Compact 18 Round Magazine
What are you doing in such a bad neighborhood in the first place? Who knows! But Walther’s 18-round magazine makes an excellent companion.
These 18-round factory magazines feature polymer baseplates, a steel magazine tower, and stainless steel springs. All of these components come together perfectly to provide superior durability and reliability. And instead of that ultra-bright orange follower, there’s a classic Walther blue follower to say hello when it’s time to reload.
We’re confident you’ll feel extra secure with the additional rounds and quality construction.
PDP SD Pro Magazine – Walther PDP SD Pro 9mm 18 Round Magazine
One of the most attractive pistols on the market, the Walther PDP SD Pro looks more like an aesthetic surgeon’s tool than a firearm. It’s beautiful, as are these magazines that scream quality and reside with Walther’s more exquisite pieces.
For instance, the stainless steel magazine spring is replaced with high-tensile music wire. This means it’s stronger, meant to withstand more abuse, and will last longer than regular springs.
Instead of a blue or orange follower, this magazine features one dressed in all-black. Anti-tilt followers are used for added reliability (like all Walther magazines), and a polymer baseplate keeps corrosion at bay.
These magazines come standard with the PDP SD and SD Pro so they are factory replacements.
Home Defense

Home Defense/Full Size – Walther PDP 18 Round Magazine
With a full-size PDP, you get a couple of 18-round magazines. These exact ones came standard with your PDP from the shop, so you know what these are. But I’ll give you the details anyway.
They are made from high-quality steel and an feature impact resistant polymer basepads. Inside you’ll find an all-black anti-tilt polymer follower that keeps them feeding reliably through the last round.
New PDP Pro-X – Walther PDP PRO-X PMM 9mm 20 Round Magazine
The PDP Pro-X is a new addition to the Walther pistol family and offers a whopping 20-round magazine capacity. Finally, Walther has caught up with the competition, and these 20-round factory magazines work perfectly as spares or replacements.
These exquisite Walther magazines feature a heat-treated carbon steel magazine tower, music wire spring, and an anti-tilt polymer follower. They are highly reliable and match the quality of the PRO line of pistols.
Range/Competition
When you want beef up your range or competition capacity, consider adding a magazine extension to squeeze in some extra rounds.
Extend Those Magazines – Taran Tactical +6/5 Magazine Extension
Remember when I said, “easily upgradable with a magazine extension?” These Taran Tactical magazine extensions are the exact ones you’ll want to upgrade your mags with. They can add six rounds of 9mm or five rounds of .40 S&W to your factory compact PDP and PPQ M2 magazines!
Aftermarket magazines for Walther pistols are scarce, so these extensions will take your ultra-reliable factory magazines and bring your capacity up to par. Swapping out the polymer baseplate with these billet aluminum ones makes your magazine slightly heavier, but more rounds is more rounds, and that’s what we’re going for.
Each extension even comes with a replacement spring to ensure the same spring tension is achieved. Please note however, these are not compatible with the 10-round compliant magazines or any aftermarket magazines.

Conclusion
Walther makes a good pistol; you and I both know it. The magazines are pricey, but their quality stands out from the rest.

A moment to appreciate the aesthetics of the PDP SD Pro. Source
All of these magazines listed above will allow you to rest easy knowing you have the best options feeding your Walther PDP. They’ve all been put through rigorous testing and have the field experience and reviews to back them.
However, you’ll still want to test all of your magazines for yourself, especially before you trust your life with them. Be good and take care.
